Imagining positive futures, for inspiration, hope and liberation. (Completed project.)
In Project Sunrise we explored, from Gouda, how people, nature and technology can coexist in harmony, through the lens of solarpunk: a movement that imagines sustainable futures. We developed writing prompts and a blueprint for an immersive solarpunk event with workshops and performances, to inspire designers, artists and hackers with positive stories rather than the apocalypse. Made possible in part by the Creative Industries Fund NL.

What it produced
On 31 May 2024, at the Garenspinnerij cultural centre in Gouda, we brought together a unique group of makers and experts around a single design question: how do we design tangible solarpunk experiences that spark a longing for a democratic, technological society? The day produced three fully developed concepts:
Grow your own garment
A solarpunk ceremony in which you grow your own garment and wear it at a dance event.
Decentralized community care
A decentralised network for solarpunk gatherings where caring for one another takes centre stage.
Stooping & Mothing
New words and meaning for solarpunk customs, from sunchores to allemansbivak.
The concepts live on: we explored a solarpunk village at the WHY2025 hacker camp and are collaborating with the Groene Hart Biënnale.
