[18 Jun] MeshMedia meetup

This is an automatic English translation of the Dutch original.

What if the internet goes down? How can you still do journalism then, and can you still trust it?

On Thursday 18 June we are launching MeshMedia, a project running over a few months in which we explore what MeshCore can mean for local journalism. MeshCore is an open, local messaging network that you can build without the internet and without dependence on big platforms. Safety regions are already exploring it, and we are going to see what it could mean for local media.

The kickoff on 18 June is an afternoon of demos, hands-on trying things out, a creative challenge and conversation. After that we continue together this summer: a field test in July to map coverage and infrastructure in Utrecht, and in August a crisis simulation in which we put the system under pressure.

When you sign up, you can choose to take part in this afternoon only, or to become part of a small group that we will guide through the experiment over the coming months.

When: Thursday 18 June, 13.00–16.00 (drinks afterwards)
Where: Spaces Utrecht, Lange Viestraat 2B, 3511 BK Utrecht
